About the author
A Savannah life, told from the inside.
Roberts Essex grew up in East Savannah, shaped by a mother whose faith was larger than the trouble around them. His story took him from childhood into four very different careers: police officer, paramedic, radio voice, and physician assistant.
After divorce, he raised a child as a single father and kept moving forward. Decades later, he finally sat down to write the deeply personal story that became Chance Beginnings.
His work shares a grounded, unromanticized view of Savannah and the South: ordinary places, complicated lives, and faith not as a catchphrase but as a working tool for getting through hard things.
